Excitement is in the air. Preparations for the first-ever, one-of-a-kind Roots of Motive Power Kinetic Carnivale are well underway. This two-day extravaganza will take place in Willits on Sept. 8 and 9 and the theme is “Steampunk.” Festivities will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Roots Restoration Yard and Loop Track adjacent to the Mendocino County Museum where participants can view authentic, working, 19th and 20th century steam machinery including locomotives, cranes and donkeys. Free train rides and steam demonstrations will also be available. Concurrently, the two-day Kinetic Fair will be underway across the street at Recreation Grove Park featuring entrepreneurs with their clothing and fine objects, food, beers, and wines for sale.
