Nicki Minaj & David Guetta Get Steampunk-y in ‘Turn Me On’ Music Video

Famous European DJ David Guetta is also a steampunk doctor, it seems. In this music video for “Turn Me On,” from last year’s Nothing but the Beat, he appears to be constructing some sort of Nicki Minaj super robot from the annals of his shadowy Old World laboratory. Nicki’s silver lips start out singing while attached to a robotic skeleton which slowly transforms into a plasticine cyborg body, about which I can say… ah!  But then the regular Nicki shows up singing the same lyrics, so it’s hard to figure out which one is supposed to be the real Roman. Alas, the narrative never really resolves, though Nicki does eventually ride a horse. These are the type of questions you’ll have to think about while you’re at the club moshing your … Read entire article »

David Guetta Builds Nicki Minaj Doll In ‘Turn Me On’ Video

David Guetta has enlisted Nicki Minaj for a steampunk-inspired affair for the pair’s “Turn Me On” music video. In the clip, Guetta plays a mad scientist creating his very own Nicki Minaj from scrap parts. The clip opens on Guetta, perhaps trying out some early cosmetic-surgery tactics, putting the final touches on his Minaj doll plans. Then it focuses on the mechanisms behind the Nicki being: latex lips, brass wiring, tubing and lots of gizmos. As the song hits the chorus for the first time, fans get a very NSFW view of his creation. Her plastic skin is shiny and completely bare as she slowly transforms into the very human-looking Nicki. Seemingly pleased with his creation, Guetta unleashes it onto the world. Minaj is now free to roam the streets, filled with other … Read entire article »

Nerf gun gets the steampunk treatment

Steampunk fans out there, how about adding another steampunk inspired Nerf gun to your collection? A while back we reported on a steampunk inspired Nerf gun, but if that was a little too big or too pricey for your taste, how about checking out a smaller and more affordable steampunk Nerf gun instead?  Nerf gun enthusiasts out there might recognize this particular model as the Maverick N Strike, but as you can see, it has been given a new coat of paint which supposedly is the “Victorian Apocalyptic” edition. This particular model hasn’t really seen much in terms of modification apart from having its air restrictors removed, and its barrel replaced with a Russian Roulette barrel (full barrel drop) … Read entire article »

Steampunk Pocket Watch Winds Via Solar Power

© Design Toscano Here’s a timepiece that’s a blast from the past, in tune with the future. Yes, it’s a Victorian-styled pocket watch, powered by solar. This lovely bit of steampunk finery (which comes to us by way of Red Ferret) by Ezekiel Empire Rosenstein of Alchemy Jewelry features classic brass styling in pewter and brass and actually uses the power of the sun to wind itself. That’s right: this lovely gizmo is solar powered, but not in the usual sense. That’s because the rays of the sun don’t actually charge a battery. This watch is the old fashioned, wind-up kind — with the added bonus that it can be wound up by the sun, via two turbine blades on … Read entire article »
